Wine producing region and grape type

Wine area: Caldana (Gavorrano)
Soil features: mainly sandy with good presence of stones  and Galestro Skeleton
Exposure: north-east rows
Elevation: 150 m  a.s.l. (500 feet)
Training: spurred Cordon 
Density: 5000 vines per hectare (1300 vines  per acre, minimum)
Harvest: Sept/Oct  grapes picked manually to avoid skin and grape damage
Bottling time: Usually 18 months after vinification
Wood ageing: in Allier Barriques and Tonneaux for 18 months
Gottle ageing: Minimum of 6 months
Grape type: 80% Sangiovese, 20%Syrah

Organolectic characteristics:

Color: intense, concentrated ruby red  with black highlights
Fragrance: plum and cherry fruits, pleasurable nuances of toasted coffee
Flavour: a pleasurable softness and warmth from dense and rounded tannins
Food combination: first and second dishes, together with cheese’s not too savoury
Service: in goblets for full-bodied red wines at a temperature of 18° C (64° Ft)
